(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Chicago’s new Mayor, Brandon Johnson, is showing himself as a “worthy” successor of Lori Lightfoot, with regular weekend shootings continuing on his watch in the ultra-liberal Windy City – as 42 were wounded and two killed in the latest violence.
The number of new shooting victims in Chicago is higher than last weekend when 37 people were shot in the city. However, the preceding weekend was also more lethal as five of the 37 died of their wounds, ABC 7 reports, as cited by Breitbart News.
In one of the most significant shooting incidents in Chicago over the weekend, eight people were shot and wounded in the downtown early Sunday morning, according to the police.
The shooting occurred at about 2:40 a.m., near West Erie Street and North Orleans Street in River North, and was caught in a 12-second social media video shared online.
Emergency personnel who responded to the shooting at first discovered three victims, including a 43-year-old woman who was hospitalized in critical condition.
The Chicago Police Department later announced that eight individuals had been wounded in that incident.
The five other victims were found in hospitals in good condition. They were men aged 25, 27, and 32, and women aged 23 and 27.
In another incident after midnight on Sunday, at about 1:50 a.m., a fight broke out between a 52-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman in a home in the 1700 block of West 86th Street.
The man pulled out a gun and shot the woman in the stomach, but she managed to gain control of the weapon and shot him in the chest.
Both were hospitalized in the Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
A shooting in the South Shore neighborhood saw the killing of a 23-year-old woman at about 10:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 74th Street.
The woman died after a group opened fire on her and a 24-year-old man who was wounded.
The other fatality over the weekend was a 43-year-old man shot in Washington Heights on the South Side Friday night by an unknown person. He died at the scene of head and chest wounds.
According to The Chicago Sun-Times, 455 people were killed in Chicago between January 1 and October 7, 2023.
