Abortion Referendums – Huge Stakes?!

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Feeling boldened by having a liberal leading their presidential ticket, House Democrats are growing more hopeful that several abortion referendums this election cycle will boost their chances of seizing the House and the presidency in November.

This week, Arizona and Missouri’s secretaries of state approved two pro-abortion rights ballot initiatives, increasing the total to eight such referendums this cycle. Additional efforts are underway in various states.

The topic of abortion became strikingly clear during the 2022 midterm elections.

The Left’s outrage following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade mobilized Democrats to the polls.

This development yielded unexpectedly strong results for the party and averted a predicted GOP surge that left Republicans with only a narrow majority in the House.

With the election just around the corner, House Democrats are optimistic that the rise of abortion referendums and Harris’ candidacy will energize voters and lead to Democrat victories across the board.

“When abortion rights are on the ballot, people turn out to defend their rights, and Democrats win,” said Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) chair Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA).

“This has been true throughout this cycle — in special election after special election, we have seen increased turnout when abortion has been on the ballot,” she added.

DelBene affirmed that the party was committed to abortion, noting, “We want to put laws passed in place to protect reproductive freedom. That’s a top priority for us.”

She also highlighted that both she and Harris would clearly communicate this message to voters nationwide.

Democrats are capitalizing on the momentum generated by Harris, who has become a leading advocate for abortion.

This issue has taken center stage more effectively than it might have under Joe Biden, who recently stepped down as the lead candidate.

Voters in states including Arizona, Missouri, Nevada, Colorado, South Dakota, New York, Maryland and Florida will decide on abortion measures this November.

Efforts are also ongoing in other key states like Montana and Nebraska to get their referendum petitions approved.

House Democrats think that the increasing number of ballot initiatives could potentially spark increased voter engagement this cycle.

They believe this could possibly motivate those who are excited by Harris’ run as well as those primarily focused on advancing abortion.
