ALERT: Indiana Enacts New Abortion Law

Indiana Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Moving swiftly last night, Indiana became the first state in the United States to enact a new law impacting abortions following the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned legislative authority over abortions to the states.

Under the newly enacted law in Indiana, almost all abortions are prohibited.

As Fox News reports in, “Indiana becomes first state in nation to approve near-total abortion ban post Roe“:

Indiana Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a bill Friday evening prohibiting most abortions.

“The new law bans the procedure except in cases of rape, incest and to protect the life and physical health of the mother. The rape and incest exceptions only apply in the first 10 weeks post-fertilization. Victims would not be required to sign a notarized affidavit attesting to an attack, which had previously been proposed. Abortions will also be allowed if a fetus is diagnosed with a lethal anomaly.” [emphasis added]

Upon signing the bill into law, Governor Holcomb issued a statement that said, in part:

“Following the overturning of Roe, I stated clearly that I would be willing to support legislation that made progress in protecting life. In my view, [the abortion law] accomplishes this goal.”
