(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Revealing how this harrowing incident affected his family, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump recently shared how his son Barron reacted when he knew that his father had been shot during an assassination attempt.
“Barron was outside having a tennis lesson,” Trump told Fox News’ Mark Levin, describing the moment his 18-year-old son found out about the July 13 shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“He’s a good tennis player. And somebody ran up and said, ‘Barron! Barron! Your father’s been shot!’”
The GOP candidate explained that Barron did not hesitate.
“He loves his father. He’s a good kid, good student, good athlete actually—and he ran, ‘Mom! What’s going on? What’s going on?’”
Moreover, Trump went on to say that his wife, Melania, had been watching the rally on TV when the assassination attempt unfolded.
“She couldn’t believe it. She was actually watching it live, can you imagine? And then I get up, and I let people know I was OK,” he recalled, recounting how he raised his fist in the air shortly after being tackled by Secret Service agents.
“I let people know I was OK. But it was a hit, it was a big hit,” he added.
Despite the ordeal, Trump mentioned that Melania still struggles to talk about it.
“She can’t even talk about it, which is okay because that means she likes me,” he said.
In addition, Trump’s comments come as multiple agencies continue investigating how 20-year-old sniper Thomas Matthew Crooks managed to evade security and open fire on the 45th president from a rooftop during the crowded rally.
In the aftermath, the Secret Service has been sharply criticized for the security lapses that allowed the attack to happen.
The agency’s chief, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned and at least five officials were reassigned to administrative roles, barring them from any operational planning.
