Trump asserts this sale undermines his administration’s immigration policies, costs taxpayers millions, and drives prices sky-high if the wall requires rebuilding.
“It’s very expensive, and now it’s about double the price of what it would have been six years ago,” Trump stated, calling the Biden administration’s actions, “almost a criminal act,” The New York Post reports.
The scandal deepens as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas take heed, investigating the legality of these sales.
Meanwhile, Congress is abuzz with concern over this apparent disrespect towards previous national security measures.
Trump spoke with Texas lawmakers about possible legal measures and considers a restraining order to halt the sales.
Videos show materials being removed and sold rapidly, with some private buyers likely aiming for resale at inflated prices.
“The Texas Facilities Commission told us today that the material for sale was mostly junk, with most panels covered in concrete and rust,” Patrick said, cited by The El Paso Times.
While U.S. Customs and Border Protection clarified their role, the Department of Defense declared that much of these materials have been transferred or sold and cannot be recalled.
