(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – President Joe Biden’s approval rating has reached a record low at a time when most Americans doubt his mental acuity and potential Republican presidential candidates are gaining in strength, according to a new survey by pro-left pollsters.
The latest public opinion poll by ABC News and The Washington Post shows that 36% of US voters approve of Biden’s job performance, Newsmax reports.
The president’s disapproval presently stands at 56%, including 47% who strongly disapprove of him.
At the same time, 63% of the respondents say that 80-year-old Biden’s mental sharpness is inadequate for serving effectively as president.
The number increased compared to 54% a year ago and 43% in 2020.
Likewise, 62% of the voters believe Biden isn’t physically fit to be in the Oval Office.
The survey by the pro-left pollsters found that the president has weaker support within the Democratic Party than former President Donald Trump has among the Republican Party.
Thus, 88% of GOP voters polled say that “at least probably” they will vote for Trump in the presidential election, while for Biden, the number is 83% of Democrat voters.
Trump also polls better among independent voters, scoring 42% who will “at least probably” vote for him, while Biden’s number is 34%.
The report points out that young voters seem to be abandoning the Democrat president, with only 26% of those under 30 approving of his performance.
The poll discovered that, among six official and possible candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Trump is favored by 51% of likely Republican primary voters.
Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, is second with 26%, followed by former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley with 6%, former Vice President Mike Pence, also with 6%, US Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina with 4%, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, also with 4%.
The survey didn’t feature entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, an official candidate.
In an open-ended question on whom Republicans or pro-Republican independents would back for president, Trump received 43%, and DeSantis got 20%.
According to the survey, 75% of Republicans declared they would be satisfied if Trump becomes the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, while 63% said the same of DeSantis.
The ABC News and Washington Post poll was carried out between April 28 and May 3 among 1,006 American voters. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
The poll featured a total of 438 Republicans and pro-Republican independents. Their results have a margin of error of 5.5 percentage points.
