Biden’s Coming Abortion Executive Order

( – Angering pro-life advocates and potentially violating several state laws, President Joe Biden is issuing an executive memorandum to allow access to abortion pills, Vice President Kamala Harris announced in a speech on the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court.

Harris delivered an address on Sunday to celebrate the 50th year since the 1973 Supreme Court ruling, which legalized unrestricted abortion nationwide.

In June 2022, the conservative majority in the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, restoring the states’ right to decide if abortion should be limited.

The vice president gave her pro-abortion speech in Florida’s capital of Tallahassee, a few miles away from the state Capitol where last year the GOP-dominated legislature and Republican Governor Ron DeSantis banned abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy.

“For nearly 50 years, Americans relied on the rights that Roe protected… Today, however, on what would have been its 50th anniversary, we speak of the Roe decision in the past tense,” Harris stated, as cited by NPR.

“Here, in Florida, health care providers face prison — prison! — for up to five years for simply doing their job. And now the state has also targeted medication abortion, and even threatened Florida pharmacists with criminal charges if they provide medication prescribed by medical professionals,” the vice president added.

Earlier on Sunday, the White House published a press release saying Biden’s “Presidential Memorandum on Further Efforts to Protect Access to Reproductive Healthcare Services” would focus on access to abortion pills such as mifepristone.

“President Biden has emphasized the need to protect access to mifepristone, a drug used in medication abortion that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over 20 years and accounts for the majority of all abortions in the United States,” the White House said.

It added the memorandum would “protect legal access to medical abortion” and “safeguard patient safety and security.”

“The right of every woman, in every state, in this country, to make decisions about her own body is on the line. I said it once, and I’ll say it again: How dare they?” Vice President Harris stated in her speech.

“Know this: President Biden and I agree, and we will never back down. We will not back down… Congress must pass a bill that protects freedom and liberty,” she added.

Later on Sunday, the White House published a brief statement by Joe Biden, which did not mention his memorandum or whether he had already signed it.

“Last year, the Supreme Court took away a constitutional right from the American people… Republicans in Congress and across the country continue to push for a national abortion ban, to criminalize doctors and nurses, and to make contraception harder to access. It’s dangerous, extreme, and out of touch,” Biden said.

“I’ll continue to fight to protect a woman’s right to choose. Congress must restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law – it’s the only way we can fully secure a woman’s right to choose in every state,” he added.
