The hunt for answers as investigators probe deeper into Meza’s dark history has indeed begun.
The city’s latest probe follows suspicions that Raul Meza Jr.’s crimes stretch beyond his known convictions.
Meza currently serves a life sentence without parole for the brutal murders of Jesse Fraga and Gloria Lofton.
But revelations hint at the possibility of his involvement in far more unresolved cases.
Authorities are diving back into cold cases with a mission to unearth connections to Meza’s sordid past.
From utilizing cutting-edge forensic methods to rallying public support for new leads, this operation is comprehensive, Fox7 Austin reports.
Meza was convicted for killing 8-year-old Kendra Page in 1982, a crime for which he served only 11 years before being released—a decision which ultimately saw further bloodshed.
Meza’s arrest in 2024 was a move lauded as necessary for public safety.
Yet the horrific series of events leading to March 2023, when Meza voluntarily contacted Austin Police, still haunt the community.
“This time was a little bit different than any other time I’ve ever answered the phone. The caller said, my name is Raul Meza and I think you’re looking for me,” explained Detective Patrick Reed.
He was giving dates and locations, so we were trying to just corroborate the dates, locations, names that he would provide and try to narrow down the timeline, the detective added.
Such calls have led to a thorough reassessment of Meza’s past.
Detectives are verifying his claims by meticulously matching dates, locations, and unnamed individuals he might have implicated.
Despite his arrest, Meza remains a suspect in numerous unsolved cases, with four still pending DNA testing to verify his involvement.
Recently, Meza has been eliminated as a suspect in eight other cold cases.
For justice, the police continually turn to the public for new insights.
As Detective Reed remarked, “We still have other cases that we think he may be involved in.”
The dogged pursuit of truth is underway, emphasizing the resolve to bridge unsolved murders with those responsible.
If further connections surface, the District Attorney’s Office will deliberate over pressing more charges.
Investigators said a convicted serial killer may be connected to more cold cases in Austin. Raul Meza Jr. is already set to spend the rest of his life in prison, but the case isn’t closed just yet. https://t.co/7Wn9ENUAcl
