Items such as breads, bagels, and cookies could pose life-threatening risks to consumers with allergies.

The FDA is already on high alert after a similar issue with another bakery.

New Grains Gluten Free Bakery in Utah has issued a recall due to the discovery of undeclared allergens like eggs, soy, and milk.

These allergens were not listed on several of their products’ labels, including breads, bagels, cookies, croutons, and bread crumbs.

The recall affects products distributed in Utah from April 7 through April 21, which are associated with lot numbers 90–107.

This recall is a significant wake-up call for those trusting food labels to ensure their safety, especially for those seriously affected by food allergies.

While the FDA confirms no illnesses have been reported yet, the potential for severe allergic reactions underscores the need for extreme caution in food labeling practices.

Consumers should discard or return the affected products for a full refund to avoid harm.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs, soy, or milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Packaging types include clear vacuum-sealed plastic bags for breads and croutons, while cookies are in regular clear plastic bags.

All feature the “gluten-free” label and carry the New Grains brand name.

Colors of labels include red, purple, orange, blue, green, or pink.

Despite the challenges, the bakery asserts its commitment to providing high-quality, gluten-free foods, a compelling goal that seems overshadowed by this substantial oversight.

“We aim to create and deliver high-quality, healthy, and delicious gluten-free products to our customers and make every eating experience satisfying, exceeding their expectations,” said the New Grains Gluten Free Bakery, cited by Newsweek.

This recall follows a recent FDA enforced recall by Upper Crust Bakery LP for potential glass fragments, another disturbing example of lapses in food safety standards.

Consumers deserve better, and the responsibility lies with food producers to ensure their products are as safe as advertised.

The FDA’s role as an overseer reminds us of what’s at stake regarding food quality and public health.
