BREAKING: 30 Children Rescued; 7 Severely Hurt

( – BREAKING UPDATE:  Authorities have reported that seven children were critically injured following a school bus accident and subsequent overturning in Idaho.

As one police officer commented, this is every parent’s worst nightmare.

The frightening event took place north of Boise when a bus carrying YMCA campers was traveling on State Highway 55 near Banks on Friday afternoon, according to Idaho State Police.

The bus was carrying 30 passengers, all from the Treasure Valley YMCA, ranging from 13 to 18 years old.

Every passenger was airlifted to the hospital, a decision made out of an abundance of caution, according to a police news release.

In total, 11 children sustained injuries.

The Idaho State Police announced that the cause of the accident remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

David Duro, YMCA Treasure Valley President, described the crash as “one of those things you never want to see happen,” during an interview with a news station. He also mentioned that the YMCA is working towards reuniting all the affected children with their parents.

The involved bus was one out of four that the summer camp program operates.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little expressed his thoughts via Twitter, stating, “Idahoans are praying for the victims of the school bus crash near Banks.”

In his tweet, he also acknowledged the efforts of the first responders and medical personnel assisting in this unfortunate event, saying, “We are thankful for the first responders and medical personnel assisting in this tragedy.”
