BREAKING: Guns Banned by Democrat Governor

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – BREAKING OVERNIGHT: New Mexico’s Democrat Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, has issued an arguably illegal and unconstitutional order banning the carrying of guns, trampling the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Specifically, Governor Grisham issued a directive prohibiting the carrying of firearms in Bernalillo County, home to Albuquerque. The decision came after a violent tragedy where a child was shot and killed near a baseball game in the city earlier in the week.

Grisham said in a statement about the temporary 30-day ban, “When New Mexicans are afraid to be in crowds, to take their kids to school, to leave a baseball game — when their very right to exist is threatened by the prospect of violence at every turn — something is very wrong.”

The restriction does not apply to police officers and certified security personnel.

The order has sparked varied reactions among public servants.

Acknowledging the divide, Grisham stated during a media briefing attended by the local district attorney, “I welcome the debate and fight about how to make New Mexicans safer.”

The governor acknowledged that the Albuquerque region’s district attorney does not favor the directive.

While expressing concerns about the order’s legality, County Sheriff John Allen committed to adhering to it for its limited duration.

“While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold,” he commented. “I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.”

State Senator Greg Baca, who holds a top position among the Republicans, criticized the decision, saying, “A child is murdered, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and what does the governor do? She [Grisham]… targets law-abiding citizens with an unconstitutional gun order.”

In contrast, Miranda Viscoli, a leader at New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, praised Governor Grisham’s prompt action. She told the Associated Press, “If it saves one life, then it’s worth doing.”

It should be noted Governor Grisham has previously endorsed several laws restricting gun access since 2019. This includes a contentious “red flag” statute in 2020, which allows the police to confiscate firearms from individuals perceived as a threat to themselves or the public.
