The Los Angeles Police Department received a call at approximately 4:30 p.m., alerting them to a disturbance at the venue located on the 4400 block of West Eighth Street in the Mid-Wilshire district.

In a statement posted on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, Kennedy revealed that the individual had asserted he was a member of his security detail.

“The man, wearing two shoulder holsters with loaded pistols and spare ammunition magazines was carrying a U.S. Marshal badge on a lanyard and belt clip federal ID,” Kennedy stated.

The FBI has been informed of the incident. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, did not display the weapon menacingly or issue threats to anyone.

The suspect was transported to the Wilshire Station, where it was determined that the LAPD would continue to spearhead the investigation. According to the Watch Commander at the station, the man is “likely to be charged with a firearms-related offense.”

Kennedy expressed gratitude to both his personal security team and the LAPD for their prompt action.

The incident occurred less than two miles from the Ambassador Hotel, where the candidate’s father, U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, was fatally shot on June 5, 1968.

Kennedy has repeatedly asked President Joe Biden to authorize Secret Service protection for Kennedy, but Biden has so far refused.
