(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – BREAKING NEWS: Jackson 5 member and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson passed away at the age of 70 from an apparent heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma.
Former Jackson family manager Steve Manning confirmed the tragic incident, but the exact cause of death is still unknown.
His sons Taj, Taryll, and TJ confirmed the news in an Instagram post, expressing their grief over the sudden loss. They said they were “shocked, saddened and heartbroken” by their father’s passing.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken,” they wrote on their group 3T’s official page.
They described Tito as “an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.” They noted that some knew him as Tito from the Jackson 5, others as “Coach Tito,” and some as “Poppa T.”
Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, Tito was the third of ten kids. His parents, Katherine and Joe Jackson, also raised Michael and Janet Jackson, who would both become global icons.
Joe Jackson saw promise in young Tito as a singer and guitarist, leading him to form the Jackson Brothers in 1964 with Tito, Jermaine, and Jackie. As the family’s music career took off, they moved to California.
Moreover, the group later became the Jackson 5 in 1966, with Michael and Marlon joining the lineup. Tito served as both a guitarist and backup singer for the band.
The Jackson 5 broke into the mainstream in 1969 after signing with Motown, quickly becoming the label’s top act. In 1975, they left Motown, signed with Epic Records, and had to change their name to The Jacksons.
Although The Jacksons never officially broke up, Tito launched a solo career, releasing two albums: “Tito Time” in 2016 and “Under Your Spell” in 2021.
Over the summer of 2024, Tito had been performing with his brothers Jackie and Marlon as The Jacksons, playing shows in Scotland, California, and England.
Just days before his death, Tito posted on Facebook from Munich, Germany, where he visited a Michael Jackson memorial with his brothers during their European tour.
