Breaking Now: Just moments ago, Senate Republicans blocked the creation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the riot at the U.S. Capitol complex on January 6th of this year.
The vote was 54-35 in favor of the creation of the commission. However, under Senate rules, there needed to be 60 votes in favor.
The six Republicans who crossed party lines and voted with the Democrats to create the commission are Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Mitt Romney (Utah), Susan Collins (Maine), Bill Cassidy (La.), Rob Portman (Ohio), and Ben Sasse (Neb.).
This is a breaking news report and will be updated if warranted.
