(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Former President Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against leftist TV network CNN, in which he is seeking compensation of $475 million in punitive damages.
Trump is suing CNN for comparing him to Nazi Germany’s dictator Adolf Hitler and calling him a “racist” on multiple occasions. Trump’s legal team filed the suit with a federal court in Florida.
The court documents for the lawsuit reported by The Daily Mail stated CNN has been using its media power to try to defeat Trump politically, with its attacks intensifying as it became clear that he is considering running for President in 2024.
“In the coming weeks and months we will also be filing lawsuits against a large number of other fake news media companies for their lies, defamation, and wrongdoing, including as it pertains to “The Big Lie,” that they used so often in reference to their disinformation attack on the presidential election of 2020,” Trump announced in an emailed statement.
The lawsuit argued that CNN had not been simply “highlighting any negative information” and “ignoring all positive information” about the 45th President of the United States. Instead, it has been actively defaming him to its audiences.
“CNN has sought to use its massive influence— purportedly as a “trusted” news source—to defame the plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically, culminating in CNN claiming credit for “[getting] Trump out” in the 2020 presidential election,” said the complaint written by Trump’s lawyers.
It said the leftist news channel has been calling the former President a “Russian lackey,” “insurrectionist,” “racist,” and has been comparing him to Hitler.
“CNN’s highly defamatory and persistent association of the plaintiff to Hitler and Hitler’s “Big Lie” is no mistaken misappropriation,” the lawsuit stated.
It pointed out that CNN’s “libel and slander” campaign against Trump “has only escalated in recent months as CNN fears” that he will be a presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
“A lawsuit was filed today against CNN, the once prestigious news channel that has devolved into a purveyor of disinformation, defamation, and fake news, at a level which the American public, and indeed the world, will not even believe is possible,” Trump himself declared in his statement.
“‘For years I have watched this take place, often in disbelief, but the time has finally come to hold CNN responsible and legally accountable for their willful deception and defamatory statements,” he added.
Trump stated further that the leftist TV network has been slandering not only him but also his “strong, devoted, and patriotic supporters,” whom he described as “people who love the United States of America, but have been treated very unfairly, at so many levels.”
