(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – As if the left’s pro-crime policies couldn’t get more ridiculous, the police in a Democrat-run California city have started telling its residents to use airhorns to fend off criminals.
The bizarre “anti-crime” advice has come from the police department in Oakland, California, a city of nearly half a million people overwhelmed by violent and non-violent offenders.
Besides telling the local population to resort to airhorns “as a way of sounding an alarm” in the event of a crime, the Oakland police have also recommended placing “security bars to…doors and windows,” CNN reports, as cited by Breitbart News.
The police advice comes against the backdrop of a crime spike that has seen burglaries in the Democrat–run city shoot up by 41% “and robberies by more than 20 percent.”
Oakland resident Toni Bird told the leftist news outlet she followed the advice of police and now owns three airhorns.
“The types of crime that we’re seeing feel much more violent and the consequences feel much more severe. And it feels like the people that are being targeted are people who are vulnerable,” Bird explained.
The bizarre, if not ludicrous local police’s recommendation to employ airhorns against criminals comes after, in a recent case, a 75-year-old Oakland woman used her gun and managed to fend off two burglars by firing a single shot against them.
The woman was home alone when the two armed criminals invaded her house, but she shot at them with her .357 Magnum revolver in cold blood.
The intruders fired back at her a couple of dozen times before they fled, but she survived unscathed.
Oakland resident Toni Bird said a neighbor of hers, 60-year-old retiree David Schneider, was shot and killed here while trimming a tree in his yard.
“People aren’t feeling safe out of their house. It makes sense that you want to protect your house then, right? You would barricade it,” she said.
“The types of crime that we’re seeing feel much more violent and the consequences feel much more severe. And it feels like the people that are being targeted are people who are vulnerable,” the Oakland woman elaborated.
