(ReclaimingAmerica.net)- Refusing to bow down to activist pressure, Oklahoma stands firm on justice by denying death row inmate Wendell Grissom’s plea for clemency.

The state’s Pardon and Parole Board sent a clear message that violent criminals will face the ultimate consequences for their actions.

In a decisive 4-1 vote, the board rejected Grissom’s plea for clemency, affirming the death sentence for his vicious crime.

Grissom was convicted of first-degree murder for the cold-blooded killing of 23-year-old Amber Dawn Matthews during a home invasion in Blaine County, Oklahoma.

State Attorney General Gentner Drummond praised the board’s decision, emphasizing the gravity of Grissom’s actions and the need for justice.

The state attorney general expressed, “Amber died at the hands of a cruel and evil man. Today, however, his fate is sealed with the denial of clemency. I am grateful to the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board for this decision.”

“In a state where we cherish the sanctity of our homes and the safety of our loved ones, justice demands nothing less than the ultimate price for those who violently tear apart the very fabric of our community,” he added.

Grissom’s execution is now scheduled for March 20, bringing an end to nearly two decades of legal proceedings.

The convicted killer admitted to fatally shooting Matthews and injuring another victim, Drue Kopf, during the home invasion.

Despite attempts by his attorneys to cite remorse and alleged brain damage, Grissom himself remained silent during the clemency hearing.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Grissom’s conviction in 2019, rejecting his claim of being intoxicated during the crime.

Both this decision and the recent denial of clemency reinforce the strength of Oklahoma’s justice system in holding violent offenders accountable.

Survivor Drue Kopf provided a powerful victim statement during the clemency hearing, describing the lasting physical and mental scars from the attack.

The victim’s family and surviving victim expressed strong support for the execution. Matthews’ cousin, Courtney Fuston, called Grissom a “low-life coward.”

Fuston stated:

“Execution is the only answer. Do I hope Grissom found the Lord, Jesus Christ, as his savior? Absolutely. But I am not here for Grissom’s eternity choices. I am here to see the execution is carried out because he murdered my cousin in cold blood.”

While anti-death penalty activists attempted to sway public opinion, citing Grissom’s alleged brain damage, the facts of the case speak for themselves.

Oklahoma Assistant Attorney General Crabb highlighted Grissom’s history of violence against women, further solidifying the case for the death penalty.

As the execution date approaches, Grissom’s recent communications reveal a lack of remorse, referring to his clemency hearing as a “joke” and expressing no fear of dying.

Oklahoma’s commitment to justice and the protection of its citizens remains steadfast.

The clemency denial for Grissom sends a clear message that violent criminals will face the full force of the law.

It also provides closure for victims and their families while attempting to safeguard communities from future acts of senseless violence.
