(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the claims between a Russian financial institution and former President Donald Trump took a hit earlier this week when Democratic attorney Michael Sussmann was acquitted of lying to the FBI.
The acquittal is a blow to the reputation of the already controversial investigation, making many consider what would be next for Durham.
A jury unanimously acquitted Sussmann following a two-week trial. Durham argued Sussmann was at the center of a 2016 attempt to get the FBI to investigate then-Presidential candidate Trump’s link with Alfa Bank, a Russian financial institution.
The three-year investigation led by Trump-era special counsel, and believed to be pursued to give Trump political ammunition, took a significant setback following Tuesday’s acquittal.
Durham was tasked with investigating the origin of the Trump Russia claims by former Attorney General William Barr during the Trump administration and continued during Biden’s term as Durham was appointed as special counsel in the final days of Trump’s administration.
Durham has charged three people in connection with the claims made against Trump, including Sussmann, but has provided very little new information supporting Trump’s claims that the allegations made to the FBI were politically-motivated.
