(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, has launched a new legislative initiative for “COVID-19 freedoms,” which will permanently ban pandemic mandates for masks and vaccines.
DeSantis’s office released a statement outlining his proposal for “common-sense” legislation that would codify the coronavirus mandate bans.
“This strong pro-freedom, anti-mandate action will permanently protect Floridians from losing their jobs due to COVID-19 vaccine mandates [and] protects parents’ rights,” declared the statement.
It made it clear that the DeSantis administration’s goal was to rid Floridians of any discrimination due to vaccination status, as the legislation it proposes “institutes additional protections” to that end.
“When the world lost its mind, Florida was a refuge of sanity, serving strongly as freedom’s linchpin,” DeSantis declared in the release.
“These measures will ensure Florida remains this way and will provide landmark protections for free speech for medical practitioners,” he added.
His State Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, also spoke against coronavirus censorship and coercion.
“As a health sciences researcher and physician, I have personally witnessed accomplished scientists receive threats due to their unorthodox positions. However, many of these positions have proven to be correct, as we’ve all seen over the past few years,” Ladapo said.
“All medical professionals should be encouraged to engage in scientific discourse without fearing for their livelihoods or their careers,” he added.
Political commentators have attributed much of DeSantis’s popularity nationwide to his strong stance against COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on public and personal life, such as lockdowns and vaccine and mask mandates.
The Florida governor’s release noted that in 2021, DeSantis signed legislation designed to protect jobs and parents’ rights from coronavirus mandates. In addition, it banned Florida’s employers from imposing mask and vaccine mandates.
DeSantis’s new legislative proposal provides for the “permanent prohibition” of pandemic mandates, which have “proven ineffective.”
If the Florida legislature adopts the proposed legislation, the state will permanently ban COVID-19 vaccine passports, mask and vaccine requirements in schools, and mask requirements by businesses.
It will also outlaw “hiring or firing” based on a person’s vaccination status.
DeSantis’s proposals also include guarantees for the First Amendment rights of medical professionals making sure they can voice their opinions and adhere to their religious beliefs.
“Governor DeSantis remains committed to ensuring COVID freedoms are upheld in Florida and will fight against local governments, businesses, and corporations that attempt to impose authoritarian policies surrounding COVID,” the statement concludes.
