(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. James Comer, has declared that his committee should investigate if any of the classified papers found in President Joe Biden’s possession were used for the Biden family’s “profit.”
Comer’s hint that the classified documents discovered in the president’s home, garage, and former office may have been used “in a way to profit for his family” came as he spoke at the National Press Club on Monday, Newsmax reported.
He was asked to comment after another committee member, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), suggested that Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified papers could lead to his impeachment.
“It’s impeachable if he was using those documents in a way to profit for his family, which there’s no evidence that happened. That’s something I think it needs to be looked into,” Rep. Comer (R-TN) said.
He also clarified that his committee’s looking into the overall classified documents case and whether some Biden family members made a profit using those would not be separate investigations.
“It’s not really two because the reason I’m concerned about the Biden documents is because there’s some reason that China’s donated so much money to the different Biden interests. I don’t think they’re doing it out of the kindness of their heart,” Comer declared.
He insisted that the Republican lawmakers have “tried to be transparent about this.”
“This [the Biden] family has made millions and millions of dollars from China. You look at the wire transfers, the money was going from China to different LLCs and then to pay both Hunter Biden and Jim Biden salaries for consulting,” said Comer, using air quotes on the last word.
“We’d like to know what that consulting was. I feel like if China, or anyone, pays you millions of dollars, they expect to get a return on that investment,” the House Oversight Committee chair added.
He revealed his hopes that his committee will come up with draft laws to fix two key issues: the way classified documents leave the White House at the end of a presidential term and the possibility of influence peddling using such records.
Comer said Democrat Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland had agreed to collaborate with him on drafting legislation after the discoveries of classified papers in possession of President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, and former Vice President Mike Pence.
“We have to reform the way that documents are boxed up when they leave the president and vice president’s office and follow them into the private sector. This is something I think will be a bipartisan legislative fix. I think we all agree there’s a problem,” Comer stated.
“No one’s accusing anyone of intentionally taking those documents home. I think a big part of what Trump argued with the National Archives, from what I’ve heard was he was arguing over what was classified and what wasn’t, but we’re going to reform the process,” the Republican lawmaker added.
