Disney Thumbs Nose at DeSantis with ‘Pride Night’

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In an apparent attempt to antagonize social conservatives, pro-left entertainment corporation Walt Disney Co. is promoting an LGBT Pride event at its theme park in California right after it took a new blow from Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis.

Disney had announced its first-ever “Pride Nite” event earlier. However, the event’s promotion on Twitter hours after DeSantis announced a new bill to tackle the leftist company’s influence made it seem like an act of defiance against the Florida governor, according to a report by The New York Post.

On April 14, Disneyland announced plans to hold a Pride Month. However, the announcement went largely unnoticed by the public until Monday night when it began promoting it, the report points out.

The after-hours special event is entitled “Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite.” It will be held on June 13 and 15, 2023, “inside Disneyland Park.”

The Pride Month event is advertised as “a separately ticketed event which celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.”

According to Disney Parks Blog, the after-hours Pride Month event will feature “themed entertainment, Disney characters, photo opportunities, specialty menu items, merchandise, and more.”

The event will start with a three-hour pre-party before a private party runs schedule to continue until 1 am PT. Those who visit the LGBT event at California’s Disneyland can ride popular attractions after regular park hours.

The Twitter promotion for Disney’s first “Pride Nite” started after earlier on Monday, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis announced a new bill that would undo the entertainment giant’s attempt to cling to special privileges at its formerly autonomous special district in the state.

The DeSantis administration and Florida Republicans have been at war with Disney since a year ago when the company denounced their law banning gender and sexuality discussions in K3 classrooms. The legislation in question has been dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by mainstream media.

Under two state laws passed in 2022 and 2023, DeSantis took away Disney’s privileges in Florida and took over the management of its special district in the central part of the state, which hosts Disney World.

However, just before the Disney-appointed oversight board members were replaced, they had passed a 10-year development plan for the district that implemented the company’s agenda for the district.

It practically reverted most of the board’s powers to Walt Disney Co, thus leaving DeSantis’s appointees powerless to stop the development projects.

However, Florida’s governor and presumptive 2024 presidential candidate reacted on Monday by announcing a draft law to prevent Disney’s attempt to go around state oversight.

“You’re not going to have Disney have its own government in Central Florida. You’re going to live under the same laws as everybody else,” DeSantis declared.

“Disney did special deals to circumvent that whole process. They controlled the board. It was basically a legal fiction where they negotiated with themselves to give themselves self-governing status. That’s in direct defiance of the will of the people of Florida,” the governor elaborated.
