(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The conservative Freedom Caucus in the United States House of Representatives issued an ultimatum over its support for a continuing resolution to approve federal government funding beyond September 30, the end of the 2023 fiscal year.
The Freedom Caucus made it clear it wants to “break the typical cycle of Congress” consisting of approving short-term spending measures, followed by a last-resort “bloated” omnibus law uniting all 12 federal spending bills, The Washington Times reports.
The caucus, which includes 45 of the 222 Republican Party representatives in the House, said support for such measures is conditional on multiple demands.
“What we’re not going to accept is just a clean CR, the same old status quo that we always do that goes into December and pressurizes every member to vote for garbage to get home for Christmas and all that stuff. We’re not doing that,” House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) said.
Thus, the conservative group demands reducing federal spending to 2022 levels and backing only measures that address the illegal immigrant invasion through the Southern Border, the weaponization of the US Justice Department, and terminating woke policies at the US Defense Department.
“Our ears are open; we’re willing to sit down, but we’ve got to get to something here,” Perry added, noting that while the caucus wanted to achieve all its goals, it was willing to compromise.
He noted their demands weren’t new, as the Freedom Caucus members had raised them since January.
The Pennsylvania Republican noted that the Secure the Border Act ought to be included in any stopgap measures. The bill claimed to be the “strongest border security” law in a century was advanced by the House earlier this year.
Another House Freedom Caucus member, Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), told the Times that GOP legislators “must use the power of the purse” to stop the growing weaponization of the US Justice Department by the Democrats.
“It’s simply unacceptable to continue funding this agency’s corrupt practices of protecting the Biden crime family while persecuting President Trump and targeting law-abiding citizens,” Clyde declared.
It is noted that the Freedom Caucus scored a victory in June by stopping woke Defense Department policies in the National Defense Authorization Act, such as paying for transgender surgeries and abortion travel costs.
