(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – BREAKING NOW: In what is the first new law of many to come that will restrict the gun rights of Americans living in blue states, New York just passed a law requiring anyone buying a semi-automatic rifle to obtain a state-issued license and also raising the age to purchase or possess a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21.
As the conservative publication National Review reports:
“New York’s legislature passed a bill to raise the age limit to buy or possess a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21.
“The bill, which passed the state senate along party lines in a 43-20 vote and in the state assembly in a 102-47 vote, would also require anyone buying a semi-automatic rifle to obtain a license.
“Current New York law only requires licensure for handguns. Federal law already requires people to be 21 to possess a handgun.” [emphasis added]
In response to discussion and promises of court challenges to the new law based on the Second Amendment, “Democratic State Senator Gustavo Rivera dismissed concerns that the measure would infringe on Second Amendment rights saying, ‘It is meant to be a hassle to those folks who might want to get their hands quickly on something with which they could mass murder people,’ according to the AP.”
Despite Rivera’s dismissal of gun rights advocates’ concerns about the new restrictions, the new legislation is sure to be challenged in court on Second Amendment grounds.
