(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – While some polls suggest former President Donald J. Trump may be losing influence with the right side of the political aisle, the Apple Store shows his new social media platform – Truth Social – is the single most popular download since it launched over the weekend.
As CNBC notes in “Trump-backed Truth Social tops Apple’s app store charts“:
“Truth Social, a new social media platform backed by former President Donald Trump, sat at the top of Apple’s free apps download charts as of Tuesday morning.
“The platform unveiled a soft launch late Sunday, according to Reuters, with many users prompted to join a waitlist. Some who tried to sign up reported glitches when attempting to create an account, though such issues are common in early app releases…
“The platform aims to distinguish itself through its content moderation philosophy, with the website calling it ‘America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.'”
The app is very similar in design to Twitter, which may not be an accident. Twitter, along with several other social media platforms, permanently banned Trump following the riot at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Even before being banned, Trump had strongly suggested that he would launch a social media platform to compete with those he believes are hostile to him and his followers after his presidency.
If the surge of signups in the initial days of the launch of Truth Social is any indication, Trump may be a strong competitor.
