(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas, famed actor Matthew McConaughey expressed that “action must be taken” in a statement released on social media.
In his statement, McConaughey, who was raised in Uvalde, Texas, said, “Once again we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us.”
He continued, imploring Americans to question, “What is it that we truly value? How do we repair the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighborhood tomorrow?”
He also called for Americans to not “make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo.”
Calling the increase in mass shootings an “epidemic we can control,” McConaughey stated that irrespective of political leanings, Americans “know we can do better.”
He concluded his statement by calling for action, stating, “Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured.”
McConaughey also expressed condolences to parents affected by the shooting, “And to those who dropped off their loved ones today not knowing it was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we will keep them coming.”
