(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The Republican majority in the US House of Representatives has adopted a bill prohibiting males identifying as “transgender women” from participating in girls and women’s sports.
The newly-passed Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act thus amended Title IX law restricting its protections only to biologically female athletes, that is, based on “an individual’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”
The bill banning men from women’s sports was passed with 219 votes in favor and 203 votes against. The GOP has a 222-213 majority in the House; three Republicans and ten Democrats didn’t cast votes.
Before the vote, House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) declared her hopes that the “historic legislation” would “protect women and girls in sports” from the “unfairness” of allowing biological men to compete against women.
House Education Committee Chairwoman Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) praised the bill’s passage as “a monumental win for women and girls across our country,” as cited by The New York Post.
Republican US Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia celebrated his party’s “vital move” regardless of whether President Joe Biden might veto the bill.
“I was proud to vote for the Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act this morning, and I’m glad it passed. I look forward to it going to the Senate and being signed by the president. If he vetoes it, that’s on him, but I think it’s so important that we protect this,” Clyde told Newsmax.
A companion bill for banning transgender athletes from women’s sports has been introduced in the US Senate by GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. Still, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will not likely bring it up for a vote.
“[Female athletes are] working their entire lifetime to win, and to have a male come in, a biological male, and steal their accomplishments is absolutely unacceptable… We are looking at a minority of students that get to choose what team they want to play on because of the gender identity that they want to claim,” Clyde declared.
“I’m sorry, but people are born male and female. You cannot change your gender, to simply say, ‘Hey, I’m going to reidentify as something different, a male as a female, so I can now dominate in a particular woman’s sport,'” he added.
On Monday, the White House had warned that Biden would veto the GOP-sponsored bill if it ever reached his desk.
“Discrimination has no place in our nation’s schools or on our playing fields,” the Biden administration said in a statement.
“Instead of addressing the pressing issues that families and students face today—such as raising teacher pay, keeping guns out of schools, addressing the mental health crisis our youth face, and helping students learn and recover academically from unprecedented disruptions—Congressional Republicans have instead chosen to prioritize policies that discriminate against children,” the White House elaborated.
Thursday's passage of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act was a vital move by House Republicans, even if President Joe Biden ends up vetoing it, Rep. Andrew Clyde said Thursday on NEWSMAX. https://t.co/5GIKGGUDmF
