(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a bombshell admission, the FBI confirmed they were warned in 2019 about Ryan Wesley Routh, a man now accused of trying to shoot Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
During a press conference, the FBI’s Miami field office special agent in charge, Jeffrey Veltri, revealed that the agency investigated Routh, a 58-year-old convicted felon, back in 2019 after getting a tip about him owning a firearm.
At the time, Routh was living in Hawaii. The FBI’s investigation hit a dead end when the person who made the tip later denied ever providing the information, so the case was closed and passed on to local law enforcement in Honolulu.
“I can also share with you that he was the subject of a previously closed 2019 tip to the FBI where it was alleged he was a felon in possession of a firearm,” Veltri said.
He added, “And following up on the tip, the alleged complainant was interviewed and did not verify, I repeat, did not verify providing the initial information.”
Veltri also spoke about Routh’s criminal history, noting that he had been in trouble with the law before.
“The United States Attorney mentioned, the subject was charged and convicted in North Carolina for possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Law enforcement checks also revealed that from 1997 to 2010, the subject had numerous felony charges for stolen goods,” Veltri stated.
Recently, the U.S. Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced they were investigating gunfire reported near Trump.
The former president’s communications director, Steven Cheung, confirmed on X that Trump was “safe following gunshots in his vicinity.”
In addition, police released bodycam footage on Monday showing Routh’s arrest. He later was taken into custody Sunday, accused of attempting to assassinate Trump.
Secret Service agents had evacuated Trump after they spotted Routh armed with a semi-automatic rifle within 500 yards of the location.
