The IRS whistleblower came forward after the Republican Party won the House of Representatives and headed its committees.

He has supervised the Hunter Biden tax probe since 2020, The New York Post reports, as cited by Breitbart News.

Mark Lytle and Tristan Leavitt, the whistleblower’s lawyers, informed Congress in a letter sent on Monday that the IRS abolished the “entire investigative team” on the First Son’s case.

“Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Supervisory Special Agent we represent was informed that he and his entire investigative team are being removed from the ongoing and sensitive investigation of the high-profile, controversial subject about which our client sought to make whistleblower disclosures to Congress,” Lytle and Leavitt wrote.

“He was informed the change was at the request of the Department of Justice,” the attorneys added.

Last month, speaking through Lytle, the IRS whistleblower declared to congressional leaders that he wanted to provide Congress with revelations about Hunter Biden’s “preferential treatment.”

He claimed President Joe Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland gave false testimony to Congress by stating that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss had unilateral authority to decide on Hunter Biden’s charges.

The letter on behalf of the whistleblower described the IRS’s decision to “kill off” the investigative team as “clearly retaliatory.”

“On April 27, 2023, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel appeared before the House Committee on Ways and Means. He testified: “I can say without any hesitation there will be no retaliation for anyone making an allegation or a call to a whistleblower hotline.” However, this move is clearly retaliatory and may also constitute obstruction of a congressional inquiry,” explained the whistleblower’s lawyers.

They stressed that their client was entitled to make disclosures to Congress and was legally protected by retaliatory actions such as a “significant change in duties, responsibilities, or working conditions.”

The attorneys noted further that attempts to prevent federal employees from giving information to Congress violated “longstanding appropriations restriction,” and that obstructing congressional investigations was a crime.

“Removing the experienced investigators who have worked this case for years and are now the subject-matter experts is exactly the sort of issue our client intended to blow the whistle on to begin with,” Lytle and Leavitt added, calling for the “prompt attention” of Congress.

Hunter Biden is being investigated for tax crime connected with his foreign business ventures, among other issues.

A week after the IRS whistleblower came forward last month, the first son’s lawyers met with Justice Department officials, which was taken to signal an upcoming charging decision.
