January 6th Committee Doubles Down On Trump Aides

U.S. Capitol Riot

(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – This week, a report by The Washington Post revealed that members of the January 6th House Select Committee are growing frustrated with Attorney General Merrick Garland, who has failed to pursue criminal charges against former President Donald Trump aides who are refusing to testify before the panel.

At a Monday evening meeting, the partisan panel — including anti-Trump Republican lawmakers Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney — criticized the Justice Department for dragging its feet.

On Tuesday, the panel continued to express its frustration at the Department of Justice for failing to bring former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and former Trump White House aides Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino to court.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told reporters that it is “important for the department to act and to act with alacrity for the principal reason that we’re trying to prevent another January 6.”

Using Trump’s famous phrase “the big lie” to describe the panel’s exasperation, Schiff continued. “Those who push the big lie that led to violence continue to push that big lie. So we feel a sense of urgency, and we hope the [DOJ] does also,” Schiff continued, “To me, these cases… are pretty clear cut in that two of the witnesses simply refused to appear. So it shouldn’t be that difficult for the [DOJ] to act.”

In December, Democratic lawmakers voted to hold Meadows in contempt of Congress after he stopped cooperating with the Jan. 6 panel, a move that the House hadn’t taken since the 19th century.

On Monday, the panel passed a vote to seek “contempt of Congress” charges against Navarro and Scavino, who have also failed to comply with the panel’s requests. The Democrat-controlled House will decide whether to move ahead with these charges shortly.

The DOJ indicted Steve Bannon, former Trump adviser, on a contempt charge earlier in December. A federal judge ruled that Bannon’s trial would begin on July 18.
