(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – A court jury has ordered conservative political commentator and radio host Alex Jones to pay almost $1 billion in compensation to the families of the 2021 Sandy Hook school shooting victims.
Jones, based in Austin, Texas, is best known for hosting The Alex Jones Show and his most popular news site, Infowars.
He was in litigation after claiming to his listeners and readers that the Sandy Hook massacre was a “hoax.”
A total of 26 people – including 20 children – were murdered in December 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The massacre was perpetrated by 20-year-old Adam Lanza, who then committed suicide.
The hefty compensation that Alex Jones is now supposed to pay to the victims’ families was ordered on Wednesday during his trial by the jury at the Waterbury Superior Court in Connecticut.
The court is located about 20 miles away from the site of the massacre ten years ago, Fox News reports.
This is the second trial against Jones over his claims that Sandy Hook massacre victims were “crisis actors hired as part of a scheme to impose gun control laws.”
During the trial, parents and siblings of the children slain by shooter Adam Lanza in 2012 testified that people who believed Jones’ hoax claims have been harassing and abusing them “relentlessly.”
One of the plaintiffs, Robbie Parker, whose 6-year-old daughter was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting, has told the jury the harassment forced his family to relocate to Washington state. He was awarded $120 million in compensation.
“It would come in these waves. It was almost like I knew when Alex Jones said something because we would get a huge wave of stuff,” Parker told the court last month.
Another plaintiff, Matthew Soto, brother of murdered teacher Vicki Soto, revealed that he had been approached by someone doubting that his sister had been killed.
During the trial, conservative commentator Alex Jones admitted again that the Sandy Hook massacre happened. However, according to the report, he “remained combative.”
Earlier in the trial, he called the judge a “tyrant” and the court of law a “kangaroo court.”
“Is this a struggle session? Are we in China? I’ve already said I’m sorry hundreds of times, and I’m done saying I’m sorry,” Jones wondered in court last month.
The new compensation order is the second such judgment against him after, in August, a jury in Texas awarded $49.3 million in compensation to Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of a 6-year-old boy killed in the Sandy Hook shooting.
Alex Jones is set for a third trial over his previous hoax claims, which is expected to occur in Texas before the end of the year.
His firm, Free Speech Systems, the parent company for Infowars, filed for bankruptcy shortly before his second trial began.
