Kurt Russell to Fellow Actors: Shut Up – Reclaiming America

Kurt Russell to Fellow Actors: Shut Up

In what may be welcome and refreshing news to many folks across the United States, one Hollywood star (we loved him in Tombstone here at Reclaiming America) has finally come out and said to his fellow celebrities what many Americans have long believed, stay the heck out of politics.

“Longtime Hollywood actor Kurt Russell says that celebrities and entertainers should perhaps stay out of politics and do what they do best: Entertain the people who pay them to do so,” according to Blaze Media.

“In a recent interview with the New York Times, Russell said that celebrities should stay in their lane and not attempt to use their following to sway the public in one direction or the other.

“The 69-year-old actor said that entertainers like him serve the purpose of entertaining, not informing or educating, and should remain mum on their public opinions in order to preserve the integrity of their craft.

“‘I’ve always been someone who felt we are court jesters,’ he told the outlet in the wide-ranging interview published Wednesday. ‘That’s what we do. … As far as I’m concerned, you should step away from saying anything so that you can still be seen by the audience in any character.'”

Is Russell correct? Should actors and all other celebrities stay out of politics? Share your opinion in the comment section on this page.

My Silver Rule: (compliments of Thumper) “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Especially those in the entertainment business. They have too much power over fans. There are some “stars” that I used to admire and enjoy watching/listening too who have completely lost me. I agree with Kurt and love the “court jester” analogy. Oh, and I just watched The Ugly Eight. Great movie!

Great comments! I agree with Kurt that actors should stick to acting and professional athletes should stick to sports etc. They have the right to express an opinion, but the problem with most of them comes when their acting and/or athletic ability goes to their heads as they reach “celebrity” status and they begin to think of themselves as “the cutting edge of societal evolution” ( to paraphrase Rush Limbaugh) and go way beyond their area of expertise. The media mob only add fuel to the fire of their overblown egos and feed off of their obnoxious never ending desire for attention.

  3. Nancy says:

Some actors have Harvard and Yale degrees, plus degrees from many other colleges. I was a teacher. Am I do to nothing but teach? What about all other professions? Acting is just a profession, and I don’t remember ever reading or hearing that people in the acting profession could not or should not engage in politics. We have become so critical and judgemental of each other when we should be welcoming honest and sincere
candidates to the political scene, regardless of one’s profession.

Kurt Russell is possessed with a wisdom that many of his privileged cohorts don’t understand. It’s like owning a business and plastering your building with Candidate “A”s election posters. Chances are you’re going to lose a substantial amount of business who support Candidate “B”. Pretty foolish. Mighty stupid. Didn’t your mama tell you, you don’t discuss politics and religion ? You don’t poop where you sleep. Or, earn a living.

  5. Sandra says:

I’ve been in love with Kurt Russell, since he was “Packy” in Gunsmoke.
I’m glad to know that Kurt has a good head on his shoulders.
I no longer watch the Actor/Politicians. I’ve no respect for them.

  6. Lash says:

I agree with Kurt Russel. I’m tired of wealthy celebrities telling everyday people on different platforms how they hate this politician and insinuating that the every day people are awful for supporting them!
Most spew hate and division! I agree with JB stick to bad acting!!!!!!!

    • Penny says:

I also agree most of them don’t care about the people they don’t realize we are the ones that made them rich. I won’t watch movies that have those in it who went against the citizens and our President. Hope they all go broke. One thing about them voting for Biden they won’t like what is coming when he taxes them 85% on there wages now. That will make them feel real good about their choice.

  7. Rand says:

There are VERY few actors who we still could use. However , when you have the pseudo-intellects of the Striesands , DeNiro’s , Ayllano’s , and so many others . It does not take a Phi Beta Kappa to understand that actors should act, and pretend to be intelligent by keeping their options to themselves. They only add to the evidence of how mundane and obtuse that they really are.

    YES he was right !!!

  9. Pegs says:

My husband & I have always been lifelong fans of his & Goldie Girl. We just became bigger fans if thats possible. LOVE what he said. Funny we just watched Tombstone yesterday. We’ve only watched probably 50 or 60 times. One of our most favorite movies of all time. I’m not kidding when I say we have watched it 50 or so times. “I’ll be your huckleberry”. #CLASIC He has a good point because my hubby & I have stopped watching actors we once loved watching because of their politics. We could not care less what any actor has to say on the subject. That’s a personal thing. A GREAT WAY TO LOSE FANS!

    • Denise says:

I have just become an even bigger fan of Kurt. YES Kurt is 100% correct! An entertainer needs to keep such opinions to themselves. They are entertainers that’s it. Yes we pay them to entertain, the line should be drawn there. Many of them seem to put much more importance on themselves then they are deserving of.

  10. Norma says:

    He is absolutely right!!!

  11. mike says:

good for Kurt…..however…as some performers become celebrities, many folks want to hear from them….that attention can cause them to speak out… and then they get a following…and then they get a TV show…and then they have the incentive and support to run for election…!
some do a good job…..and some run for cover…!

  12. Joyce Ward says:

I know ” why ” else that I liked Kurt Russell besides him being a great actor, honest person and “eye candy..LOL He hit it 🎯 I have deleted and thrown away things associated with the actors/actresses, musicians/singers,distinguished persons, etc. who I had admired or thoughts alot of but THEY have shown their TRUE COLORS!!!And don’t think that this PANADEMIC wasn’t part of KARMA and/or God for some( alot of innocent people did not deserve this virus!!) of those who
    needed to be “sorted out”!!

  13. Patricia Mclaughlin says:

Actors have every right to voice there opinion. He is entitled to his opinion but dont forget trump was on a reality tv show and regan was a actor and so was arnold and clint eastwood they all ended up in politics.

    • Joyce M Ward says:

Don’t forget Sonny Bono or Jerry Springer as well but the difference is RESEARCH or be in a position that educates you in being in public office 1st!! Not ALL that were in office ,coming from an “Entertainiment” role were any good…just saying…

    • Lucy says:

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion but, I agree with Kurt, They should not mix politics w/ acting or sports. They get paid to entertain not to use their fame to influence people & insult others that doNot agree with them🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  14. Geri says:

Finally,Someone who is not afraid to speak the TRUTH, what a great person ,and I just finished watching Tombstone my all favorite movie,so sexy Love You ******

  15. Vietnam Veteran says:

Kurt is right as I a Vietnam combat wounded veteran will never watch or forgive Hanoi Jane Fonda. She even made remarks for Joe Biden, well that automatic but him on my siit list.

    • Corri says:

You can’t just expect those actors who stand for the democratic side to be silenced. If they are silenced then the actors that stand for your side will also have to remain silent. This is a free country and anyone has a right to voice his or her thoughts. If you don’t want to be silenced, then let others speak their mind also in a peacable way.

      • cs says:

I agree with part of you said, but don’t turn every awards show or talk show into a political rally. I agree with Kurt Russell also. He’s a class act, and he constantly shows it.

  16. Meryl Parks says:

Kurt is exactly right. I won’t any longer see Movies with actors or musicians who spoke so badly of President Trump and of his supporters, they do not know us but call us horrible names and say things that my parents did not raise me to be and always lived my life that way. I loved Kurt Russell since I was 12 and say him in follow me boys spent all my babysitting money on his movies, hes a nice person, and will always go and see a Kurt Russell movie.

  17. John says:

To enjoy a movie or play I must be able to “suspend my disbelief”. If I’m watching something with an actor, who in my opinion has gone way beyond the boundaries of their knowledge, it destroys the way I’m viewing the event. So shut up and only speak to act. Jennifer Lawerence was a great actress, whom I can’t stand anymore. Alyssa Milano was OK, but not worth anything now.

  18. Gary Dietz says:

Way to go Kurt. Far too many Hollywood Celebrities need to stick to entertaining and zip-it about politics.

  19. Gary Hull says:

Absolutely. I have stated many times – If you are an entertainer, entertain; If you are in professional sports, play ball; If you are in journalism, be honest; If you are in government, govern for the people not your party.

  20. Wynn Sands says:

Any fella that can earn the love of Goldie Hawn has to be right. Good Man, Kurt!!!

  21. JB says:

Kurt Russel is absolutely right! Hollywood jesters should just entertain people and not get into politics! But then again, most of them, when they open theirs mouths, are just jesters, because all they say is nothing short of laughable anyway! Problem is, they are bad even at that, with rare exceptions!

  22. Honest says:

    GREAT Job KURT !!
