In response to the criticism, the giant company that has been in the motorcycling world for over 120 years released a statement clarifying its stance regarding this situation and its commitment to its community.

It emphasized its core principle: “United We Ride,” highlighting its dedication to welcoming riders from all backgrounds.

Harley-Davidson expressed disappointment over the negativity that surfaced on social media, which seemed aimed at dividing its loyal community. To address the situation, the company decided to respond with transparency and decisive action.

According to a statement from the company’s X account earlier this year, it carried out a thorough internal review to ensure its operations aligned with both its business needs and its diverse community.

As a result of this review, Harley-Davidson made significant changes, particularly in its approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The company announced that it discontinued its DEI function as of April 2024 and no longer operates under DEI guidelines. It also clarified that it does not enforce hiring quotas or set diversity spending goals for suppliers.

However, Harley-Davidson remains committed to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of its customers and the regions where it operates, believing that such diversity is crucial to the company’s success.

Additionally, the gigantic motorcycle business is restructuring its Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGs) to better align them with the company’s business objectives.

From now on, executive management will support these groups, focusing on professional development, networking, and mentoring.

This strategic shift aims to ensure that BERGs effectively contribute to both the personal growth of employees and the company’s overall goals.

Harley-Davidson is also centralizing its sponsorships and affiliations, ensuring that all such activities are approved and managed through the company or the Harley-Davidson Foundation.

Additionally, the company’s renewed focus will be on growing the sport of motorcycling, supporting its loyal riding community, and continuing its long-standing tradition of backing first responders, active military members, and veterans.

As part of these changes, Harley-Davidson announced that it will no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) scoring system, which marked a shift in how it engages with external organizations.
