(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – BREAKING REPORT: Two people were killed, and five others were injured in a shooting in Yuma, Arizona, near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Yuma Police Department shared news of the double homicide on Facebook, emphasizing that no suspects have been apprehended and the investigation is ongoing.
Police responded to a report of shots fired around 10:54 p.m. on Saturday in Yuma, according to Sgt. Lori Franklin.
When officers arrived, they found several individuals with gunshot wounds.
A 19-year-old male was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, later dying. A 20-year-old male was also taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. A 16-year-old male in critical condition was flown to Phoenix for treatment.
The other four victims, males aged 15, 16, 18, and 19, had non-life-threatening injuries. In total, seven victims were treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center. Several off-duty law enforcement officers in the area assisted during the incident.
The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with information about the case to call (928) 373-4700 or (928) 782-7463 for anonymous tips. If the information leads to an arrest, the person may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000, Sgt. Franklin noted.
ABC News initially reported the story, revealing that police were called to the scene just before 11 p.m. for an “aggravated assault.” Lt. Craig Johnson said that although no suspects were in custody, there was no ongoing threat to the community.
This incident occurred while Yuma, a city of around 97,000 residents, is experiencing a surge of migrants crossing the border. Mayor Douglas Nicholls, a Republican, spoke on Fox News on Friday, expressing concern about Border Patrol releasing migrants onto the streets as local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were overwhelmed.
Nicholls called for President Biden to declare a national emergency due to the migrant crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border. He noted that Arizona, Yuma County, and other local cities have declared states of emergency, but the President has not.
In his letter, Nicholls emphasized that Yuma and other border communities are facing a lack of federal commitment to enforce current immigration laws. He expressed concern about the dangers migrants face from cartels that traffic drugs and humans across the border in often life-threatening situations.
