Steve Mensch, the president and general manager of Tyler Perry Studios, died in a plane crash in Homosassa, Florida.

The crash occurred about 60 miles north of Tampa, involving a single-engine Vans RV-12IS plane registered to Mensch.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have initiated investigations into the crash.

Tyler Perry expressed shock and heartache at the loss of Mensch, emphasizing how cherished he was among the team and community.

Mensch had a profound impact on Georgia’s film industry, contributing to over $1 billion in film tax credits.

His advocacy was crucial in turning Georgia into a major hub for film and television production.

“He was trying to formulate the vision for the marketplace before the Olympics and wanted a think tank of people in the community to make Georgia competitive. He was an important figure in our growth to become a strong film and TV market,” commented actor Ric Reitz.

Mensch’s career included roles with Feature Systems, Turner Broadcasting, and the Georgia Production Partnership.

He helped plan and build a studio in China and participated in launching Third Rail Studios in Atlanta.

Tyler Perry hired him in 2016 to help create and manage Tyler Perry Studios, ABC reports.

Georgia’s leaders, including Governor Brian Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, offered condolences for Mensch’s passing.

They praised his achievements and contributions to the state’s film industry, noting the opportunities and growth he brought to the people of Georgia.

“We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our dear friend Steve Mensch. Steve was a cherished member of our team for more than eight years and well-beloved in the community of Atlanta. It’s hard to imagine not seeing him smiling throughout the halls. We will miss him dearly. Our heart goes out to his family as we all send them our prayers,” said Tyler Perry Studios, cited by Fox 5 Atlanta.

Mensch is survived by his wife, Danila, and three children.

His sudden death coincided with the release of Tyler Perry’s film “The Six Triple Eight,” shot at the Atlanta studio, a testament to his enduring legacy and impact on the film industry.
