(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – As the Biden-Harris administration is not letting up in its efforts to shift the burden of student debt from borrowers to the entire nation, GOP-led states have resisted those with a new initiative.
On Tuesday, a coalition of seven states governed by Republican leadership initiated legal proceedings to contest the Biden administration’s most recent proposal for student debt forgiveness.
The legal challenge claims that the US Department of Education is moving forward with plans to start the cancelation of student loans as early as this week, according to a Reuters report cited by Newsmax.
This action surfaces less than a week after the US Supreme Court dismissed an appeal from the Biden administration aimed at reinstating a separate student debt relief initiative.
This prior plan was crafted to reduce monthly payments for millions of loan recipients and to accelerate the process of loan forgiveness for certain borrowers.
The fresh legal challenge was lodged at a federal court in Brunswick, Georgia.
Here, the state attorneys general criticized a policy proposed by the Education Department in April.
This policy aims to implement a waiver that would absolve the federal student loan debts of approximately 27.6 million borrowers.
According to the attorneys general from states including Georgia and Missouri, recently acquired documents reveal that the Education Department has directed federal loan service providers to start erasing billions of dollars in loans, potentially beginning as soon as either Tuesday or Saturday of the same week.
The litigation contends that the Education Department is overstepping its authority with this move and that the proposed plan is in violation of established federal rule-making procedures.
“We successfully halted their first two illegal student loan cancellation schemes; I have no doubt we will secure yet another win to block the third one,” stated Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.
In response to these developments, the Education Department had not yet issued a comment regarding the lawsuit.
