(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a speech this week that has American gun owners and gun rights activists on alert, President Joe Biden once again declared his intention to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines “come hell or high water.”
Biden made the statement at the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.
He acknowledged that this move might not be popular among all gun owners but claimed that such a move would reduce mass deaths.
“I know it may make some of you uncomfortable, but that little state above me, Delaware is one of them, has the highest rate, one of the highest rates of gun ownership. But guess what? We’re going to ban assault weapons again come hell or high water and high-capacity magazines. When we did it last time to reduce mass deaths,” he said.
Biden’s comments come in the wake of a recent shooting at Michigan State University that resulted in three deaths and six injuries. The suspected gunman later took his own life. But, as many have noted, that gunman used a handgun.
In response to the tragedy, the Biden administration announced that the Justice Department would provide $231 million to states for crisis intervention and efforts to prevent gun violence.
Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that these awards would support programs that can save lives and protect communities from gun violence.
Biden also emphasized using these funds to educate the public about extreme risk protection orders.
He stated that red flag laws could only be effective if community members use them effectively. The funding will be used to educate the public and train law enforcement and other officials on these so-called intervention measures.
In conclusion, Biden’s announcement that he intends to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and allocate funds for crisis intervention and efforts to prevent gun violence highlights his belief that he can reduce mass deaths and promote community safety.
