(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The liberal bastion of New York City has turned into a cesspool of crime, as a striking estimate suggests that up to 75% of arrests in Midtown Manhattan lately are of illegals, with the numbers also high in parts of Queens.
Highlighting a widespread pattern among others like him, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Ecuador has been arrested five times in New York City this year.
He was one of five illegals facing arraignment in a Manhattan courtroom last week as part of a larger trend where illegals are increasingly involved in the city’s criminal cases.
The city’s sanctuary laws make matters worse by preventing police from collaborating with federal immigration authorities (ICE) on cases involving suspects who might be in the U.S. illegally.
Former prosecutor Jim Quinn expressed his frustration, saying, “New York City eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals. What a mess. The sanctuary city law is pathetic. It’s disgusting. It’s crazy.”
Local police also noted that illegals are quickly learning how the city’s lenient bail policies could work in their favor, understanding they might be released soon after arrest.
A City Hall spokesman referenced Mayor Eric Adams’ calls to revise these sanctuary laws, explaining, “Right now, we don’t have the authorization to be able to go and coordinate with ICE. We have to follow the law.”
Meanwhile, the NYPD stressed their constant efforts to ensure safety across all neighborhoods, despite not being allowed to ask about individuals’ immigration statuses.
Officers report that many of the crimes involve robbery, assault or fraud, with a significant portion attributed to illegals.
“I would say about 75% of the arrests in Midtown Manhattan are migrants, mostly for robberies, assaults, domestic incidents and selling counterfeit items,” said one officer.
The same officer noted this is an estimate since confirming migrant status is not straightforward unless obvious clues are present.
The issue is also visible in Queens, where the demand for Spanish interpreters in courts has surged due to the high number of illegal alien cases.
More severe crimes are also part of the mix, as recent court cases involve illegals in horrific acts of violence and sexual abuse.
At the same time, a Venezuela prison gang known as Tren de Aragua has spread across New York City. The gang is linked to several crimes, including shooting police officers.
