(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Perhaps he believes the United States of America will fold without him saving it from those he believes are spreading disinformation and misinformation.
But whatever the reason, former President Barack Obama is coming off the sidelines of American politics today to deliver a speech to the nation that he describes as being “about changes in the way we create and consume information, and the very real threat it poses to democracy.”
In a series of tweets that you can see further down this post, and in a “Disinformation and Democracy Reading List” he posted to medium.com, Obama outlines what he intends to do today when he delivers his speech — Challenges to Democracy in the Digital Information Realm — at Stanford University in California.
Obama says he has “been reading up on this issue, sitting down with academics, researchers, industry leaders and former regulators, and listening to young leaders who are working to make progress.”
Further, he wants “to share some of what I’ve read that offers useful context, solutions we can learn from, and interesting perspectives.”
It remains to be seen how many people will even watch his speech and what, if any, impact he can generate this long after his presidency. Or whether he will overshadow his former Vice President, Joe Biden, by coming back onto the political stage at this point in time.
Here are the tweets Obama has posted:
Tomorrow, I'm heading to Stanford to deliver a speech about changes in the way we create and consume information, and the very real threat it poses to democracy.
