(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Sparking outrage first in the courtroom and then in the surrounding community and now across the country, a serial rapist and sexual abuser, Christopher Belter, avoided any prison time when the sentencing judge gave him probation instead of any time behind bars.
Belter pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes – including rape and sexual assault – that he committed at parties at his parents’ home. There were at least four teenage girl victims.
According to The Washington Post, “Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III said he “agonized” over the case of 20-year-old Christopher Belter, who was accused of committing the crimes when he was 16 or 17. Belter pleaded guilty in 2019 to felony charges that included third-degree rape and attempted first-degree sexual abuse, as well as two misdemeanor charges of second-degree sexual abuse.”
Steven M. Cohen, a lawyer for one of the victims, was outraged and said, “My client threw up in the ladies’ room following the sentencing…If Chris Belter was not a White defendant from a rich and influential family, in my experience…he would surely have been sentenced to prison.”
What do you think? What is your opinion of the probation sentence Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III gave to Christopher Belton instead of giving him any time in prison for committing acts of rape and sexual abuse on multiple teenage girls?
