(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a new victory for the vile leftist ideology of transgenderism casting doubt on the Roman Catholic Church’s role as a guardian of Christian values, Pope Frances has allowed “transgender” and “homoaffective” individuals to be baptized and become godparents under certain conditions.
In a statement issued last week, the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) stated that transsexual and “homoaffective” individuals can participate in the Sacrament of Baptism and serve as godparents under specific conditions.
This guidance was provided in response to inquiries from Bishop José Negri of Santo Amaro, Brazil, Breitbart News reports.
The document, signed by Argentinean Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, states that transsexual persons, even after hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery, may be baptized “if there are no situations in which there is a risk of generating public scandal or confusion among the faithful.”
The DDF clarified that transsexual individuals, regardless of their age, are eligible for baptism as long as they are “well-prepared and willing, and that there is no occasion of scandal.”
The DDF also stated doubts “about the objective moral situation in which a person finds himself,” or concerning “his subjective dispositions towards grace.”
Addressing the role of transsexual individuals or those in gay relationships as witnesses in marriage ceremonies, the Dicastery wrote this was not prohibited by anything “in current universal canonical legislation.”
The report notes that the ext reiterates established positions of the Dicastery regarding these issues,
However, Cardinal Gerhard Müller, former prefect of the DDF, criticized the document for using language incompatible with Catholic understanding.
“In truth, there are no transsexual or homophilous (homoaffective or homosexual) people either in the order of creature nature or in the grace of the New Covenant in Christ,” Cardinal Müller stated, emphasizing the existence of only two sexes.
“It is confusing and harmful that the Magisterium employs the terminology of a nihilistic and atheistic anthropology and thus seems to give its false content the status of legitimate theological opinion in the Church,” he added.
Cardinal Müller also expressed concern over the adoption of “transhumanistic terminology” in the document, labeling transhumanism as a “diabolical fiction” and a sin against human dignity.
He especially pointed out the problematic nature of phrases like “self-determined gender reassignment.”
The document also touches on the subject of surrogacy, which Cardinal Müller noted as conflicting with Catholic teachings on the sanctity of marriage.
