New polls show their support at an all-time low of 29%, signaling a major credibility crisis among American voters.
The latest polls from CNN and NBC News paint a grim picture for the Democrat Party.
Their favorability has sunk to a shocking 29% and 27% among registered voters, plummeting 20 points since January 2021.
Only 63% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents currently view the party favorably, a significant drop from 81% at the start of President Biden’s term.
The numbers underscore a widespread dissatisfaction with the party’s direction, particularly following its loss of the White House and Senate.
Support among black, Hispanic, and younger voters has eroded, highlighting a fundamental disconnect between the party’s leaders and its base.
Internal strife has become evident, with tensions surfacing over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s decision not to block a Republican budget bill.
Progressive activists have even called for Schumer’s removal.
Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former aide to Kamala Harris, remarked, “They blew it! The Democratic Tea Party was born the same day that Chuck Schumer took to that podium to read that very well-crafted statement that told us he folded like a paper napkin.”
Adding to the party’s woes, political independents largely view both parties unfavorably, with Democrats sitting at a mere 19% approval.
A close eye on these numbers will be crucial as the 2026 midterms approach.
Currently, the polls suggest a narrowly divided electorate regarding congressional control, albeit with a slight Democratic advantage.
The Democratic Party’s internal fracture extends beyond Schumer’s actions. There’s an evident split between moderates and progressives over messaging and strategy.
Rep. Pete Aguilar summed up the sentiment, “When Donald Trump wakes up in the morning and says, ‘You’re doing the right things, Senate Democrats’ — we don’t feel that is the right place to be.”
Indeed, many Democrats argue that standing firm against the GOP may be the solution to avoiding further political decay.
The Democrats may need a “reboot” rather than just a rebrand, as highlighted by analyst Jeff Horwitt.
If they continue on this trajectory, the repercussions could be significant.
With calls for stronger opposition against the GOP rather than compromise, the path forward for the Democrat Party remains fraught with challenges.
CNN POLL – Democratic Party’s favorability rating stands at 29% – a record low in CNN’s polling dating back to 1992 and a drop of 20 points since January 2021.
