(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The politically influential and popular Rev. Franklin Graham just called for restoring America’s energy independence to how it was “when President Trump was in office.”
Graham’s comments came during a stop in Alaska that he made while returning from a trip to Vietnam.
He thanked the administration of President Joe Biden for its “common sense” as it has approved three proposed oil drilling sites in the Willow Project, Breitbart News reported.
On Monday, the U.S. Department of Interior announced the administration had approved a modified version of the Willow Project on Alaska’s northern coast, which environmental and Native American groups had resisted.
The approval allows crude oil producer ConocoPhillips to develop the oil drilling project within the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.
While campaigning for the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden supported an end to oil drilling on federal lands.
“I believe we should be using the resources God has given us and striving for energy independence, as we were when President Trump was in office,” Rev. Franklin Graham stated.
“There’s no reason we can’t do this,” he added, declaring his support for developing renewable energy sources.
“And I’m all for exploring alternate sources of energy for the future,” the famed missionary noted.
“As Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said, it is ‘national security suicide’ to be dependent on countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia for oil,” he elaborated.
The development of the Willow Project has enjoyed bipartisan support among state and U.S. lawmakers from Alaska.
The report points out that in 2017, President Donald Trump’s administration eliminated “climate change” from its list of national security threats. Instead, it was replaced with the phrase “energy dominance.”
Trump’s National Security Strategy (NSS) emphasized a need to balance energy security with economic development and environmental protection while celebrating the accomplishment of the energy independence of the United States.
“U.S. leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth, energy agenda that is detrimental to U.S. economic and energy security interests,” Trump’s NSS declared.
“Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty,” it added.
“For the first time in generations, the United States will be an energy-dominant nation. Energy dominance — America’s central position in the global energy system as a leading producer, consumer, and innovator — ensures that markets are free and U.S. infrastructure is resilient and secure,” the document elaborated.
