(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a new astounding case of leftist hypocrisy, a teacher’s union chief who demonized school choice as “racist” behavior has been exposed as sending her child to a private school.
Stacy Davis Gates, a Democrat elected president of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), is also an executive vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
She recently enrolled her eldest son in a Catholic high school in Chicago’s South Side, NBC Chicago reports, as cited by Fox News.
In past comments, Gates stated that her children’s enrollment at public schools was “legitimizing” her position as a union chief.
Gates has been known for attacking school choice, i.e., policies allowing parents to send their kids beyond their local public school, as a show of “racism,” Reason points out in a report.
“*School choice* was actually the choice of racists. It was created to avoid integrating schools with Black children. Now it’s the civil rights struggle of our generation?” the union operative tweeted in August 2022.
In an open letter earlier this month, Gates said she decided to send her eldest son to a private school because of “inequality” at public schools.
“It forced us to send our son, after years of attending a public school, to a private high school so he could live out his dream of being a soccer player while also having a curriculum that can meet his social and emotional needs,” Gates wrote.
The CTU president’s logic was questioned during a CNN interview last week.
“Why then send your child to a private school after speaking out so publicly against that?” CNN Primetime host Abby Phillips asked her.
“I didn’t speak out against private schools. I spoke out against school choice. School choice and private schools are two different entities,” the union leader argued.
“School choice in this country has been anchored to a very racist and angry right-wing,” she added.
“I think what you just described for your son is a choice that you made for your family. And I think that’s what your critics are pointing out here,” the CNN host concluded at the end of the interview.
A report by the Illinois Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research group, reveals that CTU President Gates receives a combined annual salary of over $260,000.
