(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The world’s richest person and Twitter’s new CEO, Elon Musk, has called upon his almost 115 million followers to vote for the Republican Party in today’s midterm election.
In a series of Twitter posts which you can see further down this post, Musk described himself as an “independent” who had been voting for the Democrats thus far.
“To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic,” the Tesla and Twitter CEO tweeted on Monday.
Musk’s pro-Republican election call came barely a week after he took over Twitter in a $44 billion deal and moved to fire several senior executives, including the previous CEO and the CFO.
“Hardcore Democrats or Republicans never vote the other side, so independent voters are the ones who actually decide who’s in charge,” the world’s richest person wrote in a follow-up tweet after he urged his followers to vote for the GOP.
Further, in the same thread, Musk said he might again vote for the Democratic Party.
“To be clear, my historical party affiliation has been Independent, with an actual voting history of entirely Democrat until this year,” he wrote.
“And I’m open to the idea of voting Democrat again in the future,” the new head of Twitter added.
In April, as the Twitter deal was still in the making but seemed as though it was about to be realized, Musk made it clear that part of his motivation to buy the social media platform was his desire to correct the company’s “strong left-wing bias.”
After the deal was finalized in October, he declared his goal was to establish Twitter as a universal platform welcoming various views.
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk wrote.
“[Twitter] cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!” he added.
His takeover of Twitter has been chiefly welcomed by conservatives, while hundreds of thousands of far-left and Democrat users have reportedly left the microblogging platform.
