(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The presence of a biological male playing as a transgender female on a girls’ basketball team in Vermont caused the opposing team to refuse to play and forfeit the match.
The team that forfeited the game and pulled out from the state championship tournament over a transgender athlete represented a Christian school, The National Review reported.
Last week, the Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) was pitted against the Long Tail Mountain Lions.
However, the former team refused to participate in the match over fairness and player safety concerns.
“We withdrew from the tournament because we believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players,” an MVCS senior administrator declared in a statement to Fox News.
“Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general,” the statement added.
Until the MVCS pullout, the Mountain Lions had completed their 20-game schedule without any objections from their competitors.
Vermont’s legislation allows biological boys identifying as “transgender females” to play in girls’ sporting leagues as part of its ban on discrimination based upon “gender identity.”
“Transgender and gender nonconforming students are to be provided the same opportunities to participate in physical education as are all other students,” explains the Vermont Agency of Education’s best practices.
“Participation in competitive athletic activities and sports will be resolved on a case-by-case basis,” it adds.
The report noted that Vermont’s pro-transgender policies in sports brought about several controversies in the past few months.
Thus, in October 2022, Randolph Union High suspended a middle school girls’ soccer coach for reportedly “misgendering” a trans student.
The teacher defended his daughter, who was uncomfortable with the biological male’s presence in the girls’ locker room.
Also, in October, administrators at the same school banned members of its female volleyball squad after they objected to having a biologically male student on the team.
“I feel like for stating my opinion – that I don’t want a biological man changing with – that I should not have harassment charges or bullying charges. They should all be dropped,” one student told Fox News.
“I have received calls (from schools) asking for best practices and how to go forward knowing they were going to play a team with a transgender female on it,” the school’s assistant executive, Lauren Thomas, told a local paper.
“We just supported our stance and our best practices through our inclusivity statement,” the school official declared.
