TRUMP Strikes Back – HE’S Fighting!

Donald Trump

( – Following a bombshell ruling by the highest court in the land, former President Donald Trump’s lawyers asked the New York judge who presided over his hush-money trial to set aside his conviction and postpone his sentencing, scheduled for later this month.

In a letter addressed to Judge Juan M. Merchan, Trump’s legal team highlighted the recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The lawyers requested a delay in the former president’s sentencing, allowing time for Merchan to fully consider the implications of the high court’s decision on the New York case.

According to the letter, the lawyers argued that the Supreme Court’s decision confirmed a point the defense had raised earlier in the case, that prosecutors should have been barred from introducing some evidence they claimed were official presidential acts,

In previous court filings, Trump claimed he was immune from prosecution for conduct involving official acts during his time in office.

In turn, his lawyers did not use that as a defense in the hush-money case, but they claimed that some evidence—like Trump’s social media posts about former lawyer Michael Cohen—came from his time as president and should have been excluded from the trial due to immunity protections.

Additionally. the Supreme Court ruled for the first time that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution, extending the delay in the Washington criminal case against Trump on charges he plotted to overturn his 2020 presidential election loss.

Trump was convicted in New York of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to what prosecutors said was an attempt to cover up a hush-money payment just before the 2016 presidential election.

Furthermore, Merchan had a policy before the trial requiring both sides to send him a one-page letter summarizing their arguments before making longer court filings.

He said he did this to manage the docket better and avoid being overwhelmed with paperwork.
