(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – In a development that could spell trouble for Donald Trump, leftist presidential candidate Kamala Harris has expanded her lead over the Republican nominee among female voters, according to a recent poll.
This demographic is increasingly viewed as crucial for the Democratic nominee’s success in the upcoming November election.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll, which was published on Sunday, shows that Harris now leads Trump by 54 percent to 41 percent among women.
This marks a significant increase from the 6-point lead Harris held prior to the Democratic National Convention last month, The Hill reports.
In contrast, Trump maintains a lead among male voters, outpacing Harris by a margin of 51 percent to 46 percent, according to the same poll.
Experts have observed that the gender gap in voter preference between Harris and Trump now mirrors trends seen in more recent elections.
Historically, since 1996, this gap has averaged about 19 points in exit polls.
The shift in support among both women and men is most pronounced among white voters.
Before the Democratic convention, Trump held a 13-point advantage among white female voters; however, his lead has now narrowed to just 2 points.
Meanwhile, his lead over Harris among white male voters has grown from 13 points before the convention to 21 points now.
The role of women as a pivotal voting bloc has been underscored by their contribution to Harris’s campaign.
Following Trump’s inauguration in 2016, women were instrumental in the Democrat gains during the 2018 midterm elections, often referred to as the “blue wave.”
Their engagement was further intensified after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, which eliminated federal abortion protections.
Despite these shifts, the poll indicates that Harris did not receive a substantial increase in overall support post-convention, though she continues to hold a slight lead nationally over Trump.
Among all adults and registered voters, Harris has a lead of 50 percent to 46 percent. For likely voters, her lead extends to 52 percent to 46 percent.
These results are consistent with an earlier ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted in August, before the convention, which showed Harris with 49 percent support among registered voters, compared to Trump’s 45 percent.
Further polling continues to show Harris maintaining a narrow advantage over Trump, who has largely dismissed these figures. The Hill and Decision Desk HQ’s polling index currently places Harris ahead by approximately 4.1 points nationally.
The most recent ABC News/Ipsos poll was carried out from August 23 to 27, encompassing 2,496 completed interviews. The margin of sampling error is 2.1 percentage points, with a 95 percent confidence level.
