(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Former President Donald Trump has spoken out in favor of the idea that all candidates for the White House should agree to be subjected to mandatory competency and physical tests.
Trump, who is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and the White House after announcing his candidacy in November, supported the idea in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“ANYBODY running for the Office of President of the United States should agree to take a full & complete Mental Competency Test simultaneously (or before!) with the announcement that he or she is running, & likewise, but to a somewhat lesser extent, agree to a test which would prove that you are physically capable of doing the job,” Trump declared.
“Being an outstanding President requires great mental acuity & physical stamina. If you don’t have these qualities or traits, it is likely you won’t succeed. MAGA!” added the 45th president of the United States.
Trump’s comments came after last week, his only rival for the GOP presidential nomination so far, Nikki Haley, urged mandatory mental competency tests for US lawmakers over 75.
In his remarks, the former president did not mention Haley, his former ambassador to the UN, who earlier this month became the second person after him to announce her 2024 White House candidacy.
In earlier comments, Trump had accused Haley, a former Republican Governor of South Carolina, of disloyalty because he had appointed her an ambassador.
At the same time, during her campaign announcement last week, Haley called for mental competency tests alongside her call for a new generation of leaders in American politics.
“We’re ready to move the stale ideas and faded names of the past. And we are more than ready for a new generation to lead us into the future,” Haley declared in her kick-off campaign rally in Charleston, South Carolina.
A report by The New York Post noted that Trump touted passing a cognitive test with flying colors.
In a 2020 Fox News interview, he revealed the cognitive exam consisted of having him repeat five words in a specific order after a short delay. In that case, the words were “person, woman, man, camera, TV.”
“And you go: ‘Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.’ If you get it in order, you get extra points,” Trump informed at the time.
“They said nobody gets it in order. It’s actually not that easy, but for me, it was easy,” he declared.
The issue of subjecting the nation’s political leaders to cognitive tests has become particularly acute due to the numerous gaffes and “senior moments” President Joe Biden, 80, has had since occupying the White House 2 years ago.
