(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson is discussing with former President Donald Trump the possibility of moderating 2024 election forums for Republican candidates, a report claims.
Carlson was fired by Fox News on April 24 without any explanation to the public, while Trump has been suggesting he would skip GOP primary debates moderated by Fox News.
Carlson and Trump have been discussing “displacing” Fox News as the forum moderator, The Washington Post alleges in a report cited by Breitbart News.
The leftist newspaper claims doing so would allow Carlson to “take a jab at his former employer.”
At the same time, Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination, views Fox as “hostile” for not taking his advice on the GOP election forums.
WaPo quotes two sources “familiar with the considerations” who said Carlson and his aides were mulling establishing “a candidate forum outside of the traditional protocols surrounding the GOP primary debate system.”
The exact setup for such a debate forum remains unclear for the time being, but Carlson is said to be excited about the possibility.
“At least one major candidate — Trump — has told Carlson he’s interested, according to a person familiar with the exchange,” writes The Washington Post.
The former Fox News anchor is said to be eager to shift the process away from the grip of the Republican National Committee and the traditional role of major TV networks.
“He could go straight to the candidates, stream it live, invite the networks but maintain control over the process,” one of the sources said.
At the same time, according to Breitbart, Tucker Carlson is being wooed by other networks seeking to employ his services.
Trinity Broadcast Network, One America News Network, and Newsmax are among those.
“A stronger pitch has come from Newsmax, the conservative media company that has seen a prime-time ratings surge this past week at the same time Fox was losing viewers from Carlson’s old time slot,” WaPo writes.
It further quotes Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy who said he would be open to “rebranding Newsmax under Tucker’s name.”
Yet, Carlson’s potential new television endeavor could be hindered by his existing contract with Fox News.
“As of right now, the plan remains the same: pay out Carlson’s contract and keep him on the sidelines through the 2024 elections,” a source close to Fox News management told Breitbart last week.
“They knew they would take a beating for this, but everyone — and I mean everyone — is pretty rattled. They weren’t expecting the blowback to be this bad. Hate to say it, but it’s clear that Rupert [Murdoch] has lost a step or two,” the source elaborated.
