(ReclaimingAmerica.net) – The indictment of former President Donald Trump by Manhattan’s Democrat DA Alvin Bragg is “not justice in America,” according to Harvard law professor and author Alan Dershowitz.
You can watch a video of Dershowitz a bit further down this post.
The prominent legal scholar’s comments to Newsmax came shortly before Trump arrived at the Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday afternoon to be arraigned and pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges of falsifying business records.
The Democrat DA’s indictment made POTUS 45 the first current or former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.
Bragg and a grand jury issued the indictment last Thursday over a 2016 “hush money” payment to porn star Stormy Daniels so she wouldn’t disclose an affair Trump allegedly had with her in 2006.
“You can make a crime out of anything,” Alan Dershowitz told the Newsmax program “National Report” on Tuesday.
“And even if they managed to get him on something that nobody else has ever been prosecuted for, that is not justice in America,” the Harvard professor added.
Dershowitz pointed out that in his book, “Get Trump,” he discusses in-depth the four cases being investigated against the former president and hasn’t found anything criminal.
“[In the book] I go through each of the four cases, each of the four cases against him, and I demonstrate there is nothing to any of them,” he said.
“This is all targeted prosecution, and this comes from a liberal Democrat, who has every intention of voting against Trump for the third time. This is not about politics. This is about rule of law surviving,” Dershowitz argued.
The legal scholar also stated he was convinced a potential gag order that Judge Juan Merchan might issue to ban Trump or anyone involved in the case from speaking about it publicly would be unconstitutional.
“There will be no gag order. If there were to be a gag order I would put together the best team of first amendment lawyers,” he added.
“Even the American Civil Liberties Union, that doesn’t generally get involved in cases favoring Trump, would support that. You cannot put a gag order on a man running for President of the United States. That would be so unconstitutional,” Dershowitz declared further.
“The prosecutor in New York City can’t be determining the outcome of an election. So, you can be sure that we will take the case to the Supreme Court if a gag order is imposed on behalf, not of Donald Trump, but on behalf of those of us who want to hear him talk,” he elaborated.
Dershowitz’s prediction proved correct, and former President Donald Trump gave a speech on his arraignment on Tuesday night at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
He stated that the “fake case” against him was brought “only to interfere with the upcoming 2024 election” and that it should be “dropped immediately.”
Trump concluded his 25-minute speech by stressing that there was a “very dark cloud over our beloved country.”
